After previously pausing 12C production to start 650S offensive, the Woking sports car manufacturer has now announced customers that it is discontinuing the supercar. McLaren has sent a letter to 12C owners, which you can find below.
The main reason McLaren decided to go solo with the new 650S is that the new model has been extremely well received by the public since its unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show. So much demand for the new model gave McLaren a six month order bank. Therefore, the MP4-12C's former production line is now chock-full of 650S Coupes and Spiders. We'll remind you that, when the 650S was released in Geneva, McLaren intended to offer this alongside the 12C.
This free of charge package consists of revised Active Aero software for the rear wing, that acts both as an Airbrake and Drag Reduction System. Updated IRIS infotainment system, DAB or Sirius satellite radio and a reversing camera are "specially priced for 12C owners" optional extras.
After three years of production, the 12C still had something to say, but you can't argue with McLaren's argument. After all, given the relatively small pricing difference between the two, one really couldn't choose the 12C anymore.
McLaren has confirmed to autoevolution on Twitter that they'll focus production on the 650S.

In a nod to 12C owners, the British automaker is offering a complimentary Technology Upgrade program. Mind you, this brings 12Cs to 650S levels of technology, not performance. This free of charge package consists of revised Active Aero software for the rear wing, that acts both as an Airbrake and Drag Reduction System.
