Mazda5 Available for Order in Japan

The order books for the new Mazda5 (known as Premacy on Mazda’s domestic market) have now been opened in Japan. The vehicle, which has made it’s world debut at this year’s Geneva Auto Show, is scheduled to enter the market on July 1, for the front wheel drive version and at the beginning of August, for the four wheel drive version.

The MPV range’s pricing will start at 1,799,000 yen ($19,300) and will top at 2,314,000 yen ($24,800). Mazda will debut the production of the two wheel drive version today, at the Ujina Plant No.2, which is located next to the company headquarters in Hiroshima.

The C-MAV (Mazda translates MPV as compact multi-activity vehicle) offers a high level of functionality as it comes with dual power sliding doors and multiple interior arrangements.

The vehicle’s engine line-up includes a 1.8 liter engine matted to a six speed gearbox as a novelty, a 2.0 liter powerplant that comes with a 15 percent reduction in CO2 emissions (compared to the 2.0 liter engine it replaces) and a diesel unit. The new 2.0 liter uses Mazda's idling stop system, the i-stop.

The new, third generation Premacy features an emotional design that blends elegance with a dynamic spirit. It is Mazda’s first mass production model to fully adopt Nagare (meaning “flow” in Japanese) design language, which finds inspiration in the beauty of flowing shapes found in nature. Nagare design has appeared in certain elements of recent production models and was previously showcased in a series of concept cars,” stated the press release.
