Mazda MX-5 Roadster 20th Anniversary Special Edition Released

Japanese manufacturer Mazda announced today the release of a special edition of the MX-5 Roadster (Miata) onto the Japanese market, to commemorate 20 years since the small roadster came to be. The special edition is already available at all Mazda and Mazda Anfini dealerships nationwide.

The special edition is based on the Roadster RS soft-top, equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, and the VS Power Retractable Hard Top (RHT) hard-top model with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The novelties on the special edition include unique red and black RECARO bucket sport seats, exclusive 20th Anniversary badges, and clear front fog lights. In addition, the special edition comes with 205/45R17 84W tires and 17-inch aluminum wheels, front strut tower bar, fabric soft top with glass rear window, heated seats with five temperature settings and synthetic leather door armrests and center console lid.

All of the special anniversary models come painted in Crystal White Pearl Mica, used for the first time on the Mazda Roadster. The starting price has been set to 2,860,000 yen for the soft-top version ($29,900) and 3,110,000 yen for the RHT model ($32,500).

It is the second release in the line this year, after in the beginning of the year, Mazda detailed the facelift for the successful two seater. The 20 year celebration of the model was also celebrated earlier this year at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.

The Miata/MX-5/Roadster was unveiled in 1989 at the Chicago Auto Show as a fresh roadster, which sold globally for nearly 10 years. It became one of the most successful Mazdas ever produced. The model also entered the Guinness Book of World Records with more than 850,000 units sold to date.
