Max Mosley to Address the UK Parliament on Press Standards

It was the British press to have jeopardized Max Mosley's position within the International Automobile Federation and marred his image throughout the world of Formula One and beyond, but now it's payback time! According to GMM news agency, the FIA president will address the Westminster Parliament “in an inquiry about press standards, privacy and libel”.

Mosley was involved in the famous sex scandal – also known as The Sexgate in the world of Formula 1 – set up by British tabloid News of the World last spring. The aforementioned publication presented its viewers with pictures and video coverage of Mosley's view of a “night out”, in which the FIA president was in the center of an alleged “sick Nazi orgy with 5 hookers”.

Mosley immediately denied the Nazi-related allegations and sued the NOTW for damages. He eventually won the case against the publication at the High Court, being considered by judge Mr. Justice Eady not guilty of “mocking the victims of the Holocaust”.

The 68-year old not only took his revenge over News of the World, but also managed to hold on to his presidential seat within the FIA, following a 103 votes in support and 55 against during the Extraordinary General Meeting of the FIA on June 3.

Today, however, he will address the UK Parliament and give his testimony on how the British press should behave in similar cases. According to the aforementioned news agency, the British politicians are trying to establish if “the balance between press freedom and personal privacy is the right one”.

Mosley will not be alone at the hearing, as he will be joined by Gerry McCann, the father of missing British child Madeleine McCann. The Express newspapers – Daily and Sunday Express, the Daily Star and Daily Star Sunday – all ran defamatory reports over the missing teenager and were forced to later pay out £375,000 in damages to the McCann family and Madeleine holiday companions.
