Massa Happy with Ferrari Mileage in Barcelona

After Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa made it two out of two Ferrari drivers who believe Red Bull will be the team to beat in the 2011 Formula 1 championship. However, topping the last testing session in Barcelona the other day sure gave the Brazilian a boost before the new season, as he admitted his positive feelings towards the Ferrari F150th Italia.

The outcome of testing up to the end of today has been positive,” said Massa, who ended yesterday's testing on the Circuit de Catalunya with the best time of 1.22.625.

Ferrari has been putting in the most laps from all F1 teams in Barcelona these past few days, after doing the same thing in Valencia and Jerez earlier this month. With so much mileage on board – and also some good performances in both short and long runs – the Scuderia is regarded as the main threat for Red Bull before season start, especially since McLaren Mercedes seem to run into some reliability problems of their own lately.

We really did a lot of kilometers and I think our team actually completed more than anyone else. Both myself and Fernando did a real and genuine race simulation and we tried all the types of Pirelli tire with different fuel levels,” added Massa, who also referred to the competition for 2011.

I don’t know,” began Massa, “and until we are all doing the same things at the same time, in other words at the first race, then we won’t know for certain.”

The Red Bull is definitely very quick and that’s a fact. Today, we did a good lap time and I think we are not off the pace: however, yesterday Rosberg was quick for example and you definitely cannot rule out McLaren and some other teams.”

Finally, the Ferrari-an backed the organizers' decision to cancel the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix, saying “the situation there is very serious. If there is just the slightest risk, it is better not to go.”
