Massa Appreciates Ferrari Support

Recent reports have suggested that the relationship between Felipe Massa and his Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo is becoming tensed, especially since the Brazilian driver has done little to put the Scuderia on the scoreboard lately. With Fernando Alonso battling for the title, Massa’s only role for the remainder of the season is to help the Spaniard achieve his goal, and he hasn’t done a good job in the last two races.

Di Montezemolo told the media after the recent Japanese GP that he expects Massa to be at his best in the races to come, a statement that many interpreted as an ultimatum for the 29-year old driver. Ferrari team manager Stefano Domanicali denied the allegations, insisting that Massa will have total support from his team and will not leave the Scuderia at the end of the season, no matter the outcome of this year’s championship battle.

Needless to say, Massa echoed the comments of his team boss, saying that he appreciates the full support from his team in such difficult times.

“Even though I am going through a particularly difficult time right now with a lack of results in the last couple of races, I know I can count on the support of the team, who have always been behind me one hundred per cent, especially in the difficult times,” said Massa on Ferrari’s official website.

“Knowing he (Montezemolo) has faith in me is something I truly appreciate: he has an excellent understanding of the sport and he knows that you can sometimes go through tough times. The fact his support is always there is very important,” he added.

Recently, Fernando Alonso also urged his teammate to help him as much as he can in the title fight, starting from as early as Korea (where Ferrari seem to be regarded as favorites).

My desire to do as well as possible for me and for the team is the same as ever and that has been my approach to the sport ever since I started in Formula One,” added Massa, denying speculation that he no longer pushes as hard in the 2010 campaign as he used to in the beginning.
