Marussia Virgin Confirms Major Management Reshuffle

Days before they are scheduled to unveil their 2011-spec single-seater, Marussia Virgin Racing have announced a major reshuffle of their management structure ahead of the new Formula 1 campaign. And the biggest news of all is the F1 return of former Jordan, Midland and Force India commercial chief Ian Phillips as new COO of the Banbury-based organization.

In addition, Nikolay Fomenko, President of Marussia Motors (the new partner of Virgin Racing in Formula 1) will become the team's new Engineering Director, having the role of “covering race car development, engineering and collaboration with Marussia’s road car programme.”

Marrusia's major commitment to the 2011 F1 programmes becomes even more evident with the appointment of the carmaker's UK Managing Director, Andy Webb, as new CEO of the team. This means former CEO Graeme Lowdon will now take on new responsibilities as President of Marussia Virgin Racing.

The only unchanged position within the team remains that of John Booth, who continues to be team principal of Marussia Virgin Racing.

The Board of Directors has reviewed and examined all aspects of the team’s commercial and racing operations during its debut F1 season in order to ascertain what is required to move the team forward quickly and prudently,” said Darryl Eales, Chairman of Marussia Virgin Racing, in a press release.

The changes announced today, together with Marussia’s wealth of knowledge and experience, provide us with a solid foundation as we enter our second season. I believe we are very fortunate to have such depth of commercial and racing leadership as we embark on the next step in our ambitious plans for the team.”

Moreover, Marussia’s firm commitment will continue to enable us to put in place the right people, resources and infrastructure to ensure the team advances significantly over the next two seasons and beyond. I have no doubt the team can look forward to exciting and rewarding times ahead.
