MotoGP FP2 ended in Silverstone dozens of minutes ago, with the defending champion Marc Marquez in the leading position. All the riders have managed to better their FP1 lap times, most likely because of the optimized bike setup and the slightly warmer weather. While the track temperature in Free Practice 1 this morning was a rather dismal 19 degrees Celsius (66 F), the afternoon session saw the ground temperature raising to a more suitable 27 C (81 F).
Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso has led the opening laps in the second outing of the day, but Marquez was quick to secure the leading position which he retained through the end of the practice. Hos best lap was 2’02.126, a significant improvement over the morning results, and a good indicator that he is in a mood to return to the podium after the Czech Republic GP two weeks ago, the first time in his successful yet short MotoGP career he was not admitted in the parc fermé.

Stefan Bradl was the second-fastest rider around the Silverstone track in FP2, as he ended FP2 .509s behind Marquez, and .376 ahead of an (again) fast Dovizioso. Bradley Smith and Yonny Hernadez rounded up the top 5, followed by Scott Redding, Andrea Iannone, Alvaro Bautista, Dani Pedrosa and Aleix Espargaro.

Lorenzo and Rossi ended FP2 at Silverstone in positions 11 and 13, with Pol Espargaro between them, and Crutchlow 1 tenth slower than the Doctor. Judging by the multiple runoffs in Turn 3, the Maggotts corner will definitely be on the hottest points in the Sunday race. The two factory Yamaha looks still unable to perform better on this circuit, and are left with tomorrow’s FP3 to make it to the front of the grid. Jorge Lorenzo has always been successful at Silverstone, save for the 2011 crash, but it looks like this year’s battle will be a lot tougher.
