Having settled into a solid endurance racing schedule with Porsche, Mark Webber has now decided to also consolidate his personal life. The Australian racing driver has recently enjoyed a stint at a maternity, where, together with his life partner, Ann Neal, has welcomed his first child. Webber now has a daughter and has decided to call her GT3.
The name selection has nothing to do with all the media attention the GT3 moniker has received these days. In fact, I was initially planning to name her GT2, but at the time of the choice the doctors hadn’t officially confirmed the pregnancy. I thought to myself - life is an endurance run, not a sprint race, so you have to play it safe, go with the GT3!” Webber told Aston Martin Magazine reporters.

Naturally, aspirations are high at this point. The racing driver has already planned a career for GT3. Webber said that he would like to see his daughter behind the wheel of a racecar. He explained she might even be ready for Le Mans this year. Considering her genes, it’s no wonder we might see her stroller on the Circuit de la Sarthe in April.

When asked if he would have been happier with having a boy, the WEC driver said that while he was prepared for such a situation, he was hoping for a girl - “I had a name prepared, just in case I would have a male offspring, and it was obviously GT3 RS. But I prefer a girl, she makes life so much easier for a busy father like me. I come home, see her, and I’m already smiling.

The Australian also decided to share his parental experience with the world, describing what is actually a mutual learning experience.

Life with my daughter is all about the atmosphere. She really knows how to make me happy, but since I’m still a fresh father, I learn new things every day. Still, it would help if GT3 came with a manual,” Webber explained.
