It’s been quite a lot of stir after the 2015 edition of the Dakar Rally came to an end, because rumors indicated that Marc Coma, the current title holder was about to leave KTM and motorcycling racing and start a new career as a factory driver for Toyota. Well, despite all the talks and suppositions, backed by altogether credible info, it looks like Marc Coma will not switch over to cars, at least not in 2016.
Coma has no less than 5 Dakar titles to his name and apparently he’s not that willing to give up his chances to equal Stephane Peterhansel’s winning streak. Coma is now on par with the two amazing Cyrils: Neveu and Despres, each having won the Dakar 5 times. While Neveu, the winner of the first motorcycle Dakar is no longer racing, Despres has tried his luck with Yamaha in 2013, to a disappointing result, and has since switched to the cars category with Peugeot.
The support is extended for the World Rally Raid championship as well, as KTM and Coma have also been quite successful in such competitions. Judging by the strong competition Honda put up this year, we can believe that KTM did their utmost best to retain Coma and continue their winning streak. Chaleco Lopez out and Kurt Caselli unfortunately deceased, Coma remains the unquestionable top rider for the Austrian house, even though strong guys such as Sam Sunderland and rookie Toby Price (3rd overall this year) look like being the next wave of title contenders under the Orange Banners.
Definitely still a KTM-Honda battle in the 2016 edition of the Dakar Rally, this competition is only getting better and better with the new riders. Only 11 months remaining…

After the well-deserved period of rest following the grueling two weeks spent in the South American deserts, Marc Coma met with KTM officials in the company’s Mattighofen headquarters. Analyzing how 2014 was and the Dakar victory, both KTM and Coma agreed that it’s almost foolish not to try and bring one more title for the Austrian house, especially as the Spanish rider was offered all the support he needs.The support is extended for the World Rally Raid championship as well, as KTM and Coma have also been quite successful in such competitions.
