Mansell Believes Schumacher Could Win 8th Title

In a time when most are questioning Michael Schumacher's ability to become a race winner once again in the Formula One championship, in case he decides to join Mercedes GP for the upcoming season, former F1 champion Nigel Mansell admitted he won't be surprised to see Schu bag an 8th overall title in Formula One.

Mansell believes that not only the 40-year old German will make a great impact at his return in the series, but also take it all the way to the end and regain what was righteously his during the first half of this decade: the world title. Age has nothing to do with it, argued the Brit, the only thing that could stop the German being anything short of a race-winning car from Mercedes.

It wouldn't surprise me if Michael challenged for another world title. It doesn't matter what age you are as long as you are professional, committed and focused. People have written Michael off as over the hill, I look at it differently,” said Mansell in an interview with the Sunday Mail.

Michael has tremendous experience and talent, and Mercedes will provide him with a fantastic package. For me there is no downside to this. He's won enough titles, so what does he have to worry about losing to anyone? It may take a few races to get to grips with his car, but after that it wouldn't surprise me if he was to challenge for his eighth title,” added the British ace.

If deciding to come back to F1 racing, Schu will reunite with former team boss Ross Brawn, with whom he worked at both Benetton Renault and Ferrari. The duo has won no less than 7 drivers' titles together and 8th constructors' trophies.
