It’s really nice that you can show up at the Nurburgring in some reasonably-sporty set of wheels, and with €26 ($32) in your pocket and then drive it as hard as you dare. The Fiat 500 Abarth is an excellent all-round car, as it is very compact, economical and genuinely sporty for what it is.
Marchettino has taken his very own Abarth 500 (with a modified exhaust system, that is) on the ‘Ring, where he drives it absolutely almost flat-out. We say that the custom exhaust makes all the difference, especially for sporty driving, as once you get to know the car, you just drive it based on feel alone, and a raspy engine and exhaust note not only contribute to the overall feeling of driving pleasure, but also eases the driver’s effort as he or she no longer has to constantly look at the rev counter in order to change gears.
