London to Timbuktu Expedition in Flying Car Starts Today

One, two, three... off they go. The most waited expedition for the beginning of this year will start today when a group of British adventurers will set for a 3,600-mile journey by land and air in their Parajet Skycar.

As we reported earlier in November, the Parajet Company was creating a vehicle able to both fly and travel on the roads like ordinary cars. Now that the vehicle is ready, a team of daring British adventurers led by Neil Laughton are going to take off from London, then travel through France Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara and Mali and plan to get to Timbuktu on February 20, The Daily Mail reported.

The group intends to drive the flying car where there are roads and fly it over the Straits of Gibraltar, the Atlas Mountains n Morocco and the roadless part of the Empty Quarter of the Sahara. Although on board there will be only two persons, the pair will be followed by a supporting group of experienced adventurers on the ground that are going to carry supplies, water and bio-fuel. The weather conditions will vary from -30 degrees Celsius  in the mountains to up to 50 degrees Celsius in the desert, but there shouldn't be any problems as the flying car has been fully tested in advance.

The team wanted initially to fly 22 miles across the English Channel but their plan was cancelled by civil aviation officials. However, there are enough areas where the Skycar can prove its flying capabilities. The vehicle can change to flying mode in just three minutes and may reach altitudes of up to 15,000 feet and speeds of 70 mph in the air, while on the ground its top speed can reach 108 mph.

The vehicle was designed by young British inventor Giles Cardozo in just 18 months and the expedition team labelled it as the “world's first road legal biofuelled flying car”.

That being said, we can only wish them to have a pleasant journey and a nice flight and we are looking forward to hearing from them.
