We’ve heard rumors of a more powerful, special edition track-oriented car for a while now, and at some point, the specifications have even leaked online. But now, it’s officially here: the limited edition 911 GT3 RS 4.0 racing car broke cover today, and the end result is nothing but stunning.

Scheduled to go on sale in Germany in July 2011, the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 will be limited to just 600 units worldwide. In its home market, the basic list price is EUR178,596 (USD265,090 at the current exchange rate) including 19 percent value added tax and country-specific equipment.

The limited edition 911 is painted white as standard, features a wide track, low vehicle position, large rear wing with adapted side plates, steeply inclined rear wing, central twin tailpipe and an aerodynamically optimised body. The lateral front air deflection vanes, so-called flics, are making their first appearance on a production Porsche.

The flat engine's crankshaft has been lifted unchanged from the 911 GT3 RSR racing car’s six cylinder engine and the forged pistons’ connecting rods are made of titanium. The 4.0-liter sports engine develops no less than 500 hp at 8,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 460 Nm (339 lb.ft.) at 5,750 rpm.

Performance wise, the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 - available exclusively with a six-speed sports transmission - sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standing start in 3.9 seconds, and reaches the 200 km/h (124 mph) mark in under 12 seconds. “The most eloquent figure: It makes it round the Nurburgring-Nordschleife in 7:27 minutes,” Porsche brags.

The 911 GT3 RS 4.0 is equipped as standard with lightweight components such as bucket seats, bonnet and front wings made of carbon fibre, plastic rear windows and weight-optimised carpets. Finally, the vehicle tips the scales at 1,360 kg (2,998 lbs) with a full fuel tank.
