Liberty Electric Cars Secures Whole Engineering Team from Modec

Liberty Electric Cars has managed to secure the entire engineering team formerly employed at Modec – the Coventry based electric commercial vehicle manufacturer which entered administration in March of this year. Thus, the company has reinforced its engineering team and has now one of the best when it comes to electric vehicles.

The 12 experts have a combined 200 years of automotive engineering experience, or 70 years of experience in EV technology. They’ve even created EVs which have driven over 2,500,000 miles.

This expansion has taken Liberty Electric Cars into a new sector – commercial vehicles – which offers a large potential for EVs, especially since routes tend to be repetitive and daily journeys are often under 100 miles round trip.

“Liberty Electric Cars has created one of the most highly skilled EV engineering teams in the world. With this tremendous know how in EV technology, Liberty will create the most exciting and high performing electric drivetrains ever seen. We have already been contacted by OEMs to develop new generation EVs for a worldwide market that we expect to grow significantly over the coming years,” said Ian Hobday, Managing Director of Liberty Electric Cars.

Liberty Electric Cars has proven itself by creating the world’s first pure electric high performing 4x4 - the Liberty E-Range, which has the largest battery pack in an EV providing a range of 200 miles.

Modec was founded by Lord Jamie Borwick in 2004 and was widely regarded as the market leader in electric commercial vehicles and one of the most promising low-carbon business opportunities for the West Midlands. When takeover talks failed in March 2011, the company had no option but to call in the administrators.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
