Lexus Teases GS 350 Ahead of Pebble Beach Debut

With less than a fortnight to go before Lexus takes the wraps off its brand new, more aggressively styled GS, the Japanese luxury division has released the first actual teaser image, which shows remarkably similar proportions to the concept we’ve all been talking about for so long - the LF-Gh.

We’ve been skeptical of Toyota’s idea to put radical styling on a car that usually reserved for gentlemen who like the game of golf, but have refrained from calling it a bad idea. We’re now glad we kept our mouths shut, because the end result is a looker.

LED running lights now frame the lower part of the headlights, while the grille has the shape of an hourglass, being tapered around the area of the lights. You could say Lexus took the L badge and went to town on the design, using its shape wherever possible. The grille is so large in fact that you get the impression it’s going to touch the ground soon, swallowing up the little dogs that couldn’t hear the hybrid powertrain.

“Today, buyers in the mid-size luxury segment want a more engaging driving experience, styling that makes a statement, and a roomier interior package,”
said Mark Templin, Lexus group vice president and general manager, in the press release that came with the teaser image. “With the all-new GS, we’re giving them what they asked for, and more.”

In case you like a bit of Lexus next to your manicured lawn, but can’t be bothered to go to Pebble Beach, the company is going with the tide an has tuned to social media for the reveal. The 2013 GS will be unveiled live, but a special preview will be shown on Facebook 30 minutes early. If you’re interested, just turn your attention to this site on August 18th.
