It looks like some guys only get the way things are in real life only if they're told by the police. It's the case of California state senator Jim Beall (D- San Jose), the sponsor of the US Senate Bill 305 who has finally decided to withdraw his proposal on forbidding lane splitting.
The bill was introduce February 20 and allowed lane splitting only in some certain situations: on divided highways with three or more lanes of travel in the same direction, only when traffic is congested and only at "a safe" speed.
Riders and American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) have long tried to explain that lane splitting is a major factor for fluidizing traffic, especially in crowded areas and poses minimal threats to riders and other road users when done properly.
Nick Harris, western states AMA representative added that as the California Highway patrol has already stated the legal limits and guidelines for lane splitting, new restrictions are unnecessary.
