The name derives from the Spanish language and symbolizes zest for life, hope and passion. This is Lavida, newly presented at the Auto China 2008 Show, the first Volkswagen model ever to be entirely developed outside developed outside Germany.
Characterized by typical German shapes and elements, but adapted to the Chinese design, with 4.6 meters in length, the Lavida is just about 6 centimeters bigger than the current Jetta, offering pretty impressive interior space and a cargo volume of 472 liters.
Most interior design elements are also common to the rest of the VW models, featuring the same intuitive controls and gadgets from the cars on the same platform sch as the Jetta, the Octavia and Audi A4. Gadgets include even a freshly implemented USB interface for an MP3 player, meeting customer wished just as revealed from numerous surveys.
Choices of engines are the same as those found on the New Bora, with four-cylinder euro-4 compliant power-plants mated either to manual or six-speed automatic gearboxes.
The Lavida will be available in three equipment lines named "Trendline", "Comfortline" and "Highline". The basic "Trendline" package will feature standard ABS, driver and passenger airbags, climate control, MP3 capable CD-Radio, power windows and ati-theft warning system. The "Comfortline" and "Highline" versions offer chrome packages, 16-inch alloy wheels, sliding sunroof, leather seats, side and head airbags, cruise control, parking sensors, automatic climate control and cd-changer. The top of the line "Highline" variant feature as an extra a DVD-supported navigation system and telephone preparation.
The production of the new model is expected to start in mid June and the manufacturer expects to sell over 8000 units by the end of the year. Prices have not been confirmed yet.
