On June 28th, at precisely 8 pm UK time, BBC2 will air the end of an era. If we don’t account specials like Top Gear of the Pops, then the soon-to-air Series 22 Episode 8 represents the 175th episode of Jeremy Clarkson-era Top Gear. According to Andy Wilman, it’s an emotional moment for the TG team.
Speaking to Radio Times mag, the former Top Gear executive producer declared that he oversaw the filming of the studio bits of the episode at hand. As a brief reminder, only James May and Richard Hammond were on the set, at the Top Gear studio near the Dunsfold Aerodrome. Jeremy Clarkson wasn’t featured in this filming session because of a punch-up.

“The final [filming] session without Jeremy was very poignant," declared Wilman. "We’ve had a lot of fun in that studio, but we had a job to do and we got it done, professionally, and without tears or tantrums.” Although he wasn’t on the set, Jeremy did help with wrapping this episode up by finishing voiceovers for the final Top Gear episode at the BBC HQ a few weeks ago.

An insider close to the Top Gear crew told Radio Times that the 75-minute last hurrah will remind enthusiasts of the show about the genuine camaraderie of the three amigos. Losing Jeremy is a big blow for Top Gear, as well as for the BBC. He took James and Richard with him and will announce an all-new motoring show within weeks. Furthermore, James will be hosting a two-episode motoring series.

And on that bombshell, prepare for your last taste of Top Gear as we know it. Before Chris Evans and his yet-to-be-finalized crew take over the reigns of Top Gear, we’ll be dealt with no less than 75 minutes of “ambitious, but rubbish” entertainment, the kind we all know and love.

The following teaser videos are there to convince you on tuning in this Sunday evening.
