Citroen Will Supplement C4 Cactus Crossover Production Due to High Demand

Last time we heard about the Citroen C4 Cactus crossover in sales-related news, the funky-looking French car was falling behind its rivals. So consider us surprised when we hear Citroen will boost the small SUV's production because a lot of people want their car.

The C4 Cactus needed a year to sell 70,000 units, and that's not very good when you think Renault managed to sell the first 100,000 examples of the Captur, a direct competitor for the C4 Catus, in just nine months.

Coming back to present day, Autonews reports that Citroen will increase yearly production of the C4 Cactus Crossover because the car proved more popular than anticipated. Also, the French carmaker will be looking for sales opportunities outside Europe. No, really, really outside Europe, as the Cactus will enter the market in Australia, South Africa and maybe Asia.

According to the same source, Citroen wanted to sell 70,000 units, the same number we mentioned in the introduction of this article - a bit weird, don't you think? However, 74,000 C4 Cactus models found new owners. As a result, Citroen will add up to 10,000 units a year of production at its Villaverde factory near Madrid, where the hip crossover is assembled.

So, is this a result of being different? Could be, but we think sales would have been way higher if it weren't for engineering and packing issues such as the criticized five-speed transmission used throughout the PSA group.

It's also worth mentioning that right from the moment it entered the market, Citroen's C4 Cactus had a €2,000 official discount, and this was later increased to €2,500.
