In what turned out to be an exciting race at Bashas' Supermarkets 200 at Phoenix International Raceway, Kyle Busch managed to take his second Nationwide Series win of his career, after overcoming a late penalty and recovering 10 spots in the final seven laps.
Busch’s great fight for the win started with 50 laps remaining, wh NASCAR officials decided Busch failed to restart the race in the designated area between two red lines on the front stretch wall and gave the top position to Brad Keselowski.
On the restart that followed NASCAR sent Busch's No. 18 Toyota for a pass-through penalty for jumping the restart, a move which dropped Busch and his Toyota to 19th, some 20 seconds behind the leader.
It took Buchs 38 laps to reach the 11th spot, when NASCAR calle a caution for debris on Lap 188. He than recovered the remaining position in the final seven laps. Overall, Busch led the entire Bashas' Supermarkets 200, with the only segment of the race he occurring on lap 17.
"Man, this car was pretty awesome Friday night," Busch said according to NASCAR. "It was super, super fast. Hopefully, that was an exciting win for the fans. I don't know how we could have made it any better of a show right there. All I know is I paid NASCAR back by winning," Busch said.
Meanwhile, Keselowski managed to loose his number 1 position, as well as the second one, which was filled in the end by Kevin Harvick. Brendan Gaughan ranked fourth, while Greg Biffle completed the top five.
