Kubica: I'm Disappointed with F1 Title Miss

Polish driver Robert Kubica once again expressed his disappointment over missing out on the F1 title last year. Considering the fact that this season's campaign has been nothing but disastrous for his team BMW Sauber, the fact that he was so close to becoming world champion last year tends to become even harder to accept.

While being very close to Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa in the closing stages of the 2008 season, Kubica had to pay tribute to his team's focusing on the 2009-spec car and leaving him with no help whatsoever to challenging for the title. Of course, no one at BMW properly admitted the aforementioned switch in development, but we all know to read between the lines.

Reminded of the chance he had to become the first Polish driver to become Formula One champion, Kubica insisted this should be a lesson to be learnt by both himself and BMW. He argued that no one should abandon a fight in which they hold the upper hand in exchange of devoting themselves to one that they know nothing of.

As a result of turning their back on their 2008 campaign in the second part of last season, BMW are now on a humiliating 7th place in the constructors' classification, with both drivers struggling at the rear of the field during the last few races.

Situations like this are common in motor racing; you never know where you are going to be next year. That's why I was disappointed last year when we did not seize our chance when we were very close to the front,” said Kubica in an interview with German magazine Auto Motor und Sport.

When the opportunity for me to drive in formula one came I could have said 'no, it's too early for me. I would rather wait for another year'. Instead you have to seize your chances, otherwise things could pass without you," he added.
