Kovalainen to Join F1 Demonstration in Kremlin

While Lewis Hamilton will be busy finding solutions to this horrible season with McLaren, teammate Heikki Kovalainen is to take part in a demonstration in Russia less than three weeks from now. According to CAPSIS International news agency, the Finn will drive the race winning MP4-23 (2008 challenger) outside of Kremlin on July 19.

Kovalainen will not be the only driver taking part in the aforementioned demonstration, as he will be joined by some Williams-Toyota and Red Bull drivers (yet to be announced). The event is to take place only one week before the Hungarian Grand Prix, scheduled for July 24 thru 26.

I’m really looking forward to the demonstration in Russia. Moscow is one of the world’s most magnificent cities and this opportunity to showcase Formula One machinery to so many people, and in such an amazing place, is an incredible opportunity,” Kovalainen was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.

For everybody who attends, this should be an absolutely amazing demonstration of the worldwide appeal of Formula One to a country that is looking forward to hosting its first Grand Prix in the near future,” added the Finnish driver.

Indeed, Russia has constantly been considered by Bernie Ecclestone as a future host for a Formula One grand prix, but plans were never finalized by the local authorities. The country's hopes to join the Great Circle are, for the time being, linked with a street circuit, as Russia is yet to build a FIA-compliant race track. If the local officials are to move in the right direction, Moscow seems the most likely base for a future Russian Grand Prix in the near future.
