German manufacturer Porsche announced today it has found a replacement for Bernhard Maier as the head of its German operations. The new chief will be Klaus Zellmer, who will move to the new position from the Marketing department of Porsche Germany.
Zellmer has been with Porsche since 1997, having worked as the man in charge with developing the Porsche distribution network in France and the regional manager for North America. He has been named responsible for the area of Sales and Marketing at Porsche Leipzig in between 2002 and 2006.
The move is needed after Bernhard Maier was named to the Supervisory Board of Porsche as the leader of the Sales and Marketing Division. Maier replaced Klaus Berning, who left the board. According to sources, Berning was sent on his way as he had to pay for the declining sales of the 911 sports car in the second half of 2009.
The 25 percent decrease registered in the first four months compared to the previous year has been brought down to a figure of 3.1 percent for the full six month period.
Zellmer takes charge of Porsche's division in a time when the carmaker is preparing a shift in its production goals, as well as the release of new models. The carmaker already announced it is working on an electric sportscar, whose drivetrain is currently being tested on three Boxster models.
Additionally, a production version of the 918 Spyder was confirmed, while the Panamera model, which just reached the 25,000 unit milestone, will get a hybrid version next year.
