Kia has really proved in the last few years that their cars are up at the top of the class, in so many areas, that you wonder how they got so high so quickly. Regardless, they had not really made their mark as they should have, in Europe especially, as they did not have a properly sporty hatch for keen drivers.
Well, that’s all about to change as Kia officials have announced that they will be bringing out 200 hp versions of the regular Cee’d hatch, the estate, as well as the Procee’d coupe. All cars will bear a ‘GT’ badge, and they will be powered by a derivative of the 1.6-liter unit found under the bonnet of the Hyundai Veloster.
The models will be launched at next year’s Geneva Motor Show, which is due to be held in March. They will feature more aggressive styling, with 18-inch rims and some sort of mild sporty body kit, as well as the usual stiffened suspension, bigger brakes and recalibrated handling.
Of the three cars, the most special will undoubtedly be the coupe, the Procee`d, as it will get bespoke Recaro leather seats, as well as other sporty additions to its cabin. Officials say they chose ‘GT’, over something sportier like ‘RS’, as the latter has hardcore racing connotations, which may be misleading to buyers.
