Built at Kia’s Slovakian plant and developed on UK roads, the new Sportage is ready for market introduction. Going on sale on August 1st in the high-spec Sportage First Edition version, the model will be followed by the other variants in the range in November. The new generation Sportage will include two wheel drive, petrol and additional diesel versions.

While full details of the RHD all-wheel-drive 2.0-litre diesel Sportage First Edition will be revealed on July 20, British customers are however treated to a glimpse of the much anticipated Kia SUV.

First off, the Sportage First Edition comes in a choice of manual or automatic transmissions and an efficient common-rail turbodiesel engine. The 2.0-litre CRDi engine is said to emit just 156 g/km CO2 and achieves a combined cycle economy of 47.1 mpg (5 l/100km). This can be translated into a 31g/km reduction and 7.3 mpg addition to the figures corresponding to the outgoing model.

The First Edition also comes as standard with features such as including a full leather interior, dual zone climate control, automatic rain-sensing wipers, LED daytime running lights and 18-inch alloy wheels.

“Designed by Peter Schreyer to combine the stance and attitude of a compact SUV but with a sleek, urban design and have greener credentials, Kia’s all-new Sportage is designed to meet the requirements of young families – or the young at heart – who lead busy, primarily urban-centric, lifestyles,” a company statement reads.

British customers will be allowed to choose from five different colors, including the striking Techno Orange. Pricing details are to be announced at a later date, most likely together with the full spec.
