Karl-Friedrich Stracke Appointed CEO of Opel/Vauxhall

General Motors has just announced two key executive moves for its European operations, with Karl-Friedrich Stracke being appointed CEO of Opel/Vauxhall (effective April 1) and nominating Nick Reilly, the current CEO, who will remain the head of GM’s European operations, to chair the Opel Supervisory board.

The European market and our European operations are important to General Motors, and these moves will ensure that we have the best leadership in place as we continue toward growth and profitability,” said Dan Akerson, GM chairman and chief executive officer.

Strake, who will be nominated as Chairman of the Management Board of Adam Opel AG, will report to Reilly in his capacity as CEO of Opel/Vauxhall. The president & CEO GM Asset Management and currently Supervisory Board Chairman, Walter Borst, will continue as a normal member of the Supervisory Board.

"I am excited to lead a company with such a rich German heritage at this time in its history,” said Stracke. “Opel/Vauxhall has a great workforce and an exciting and innovative product portfolio. I’m looking forward to a thriving future.

Reilly will not only serve on the Opel Supervisory Board, but will also oversee Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe.

We look forward to welcoming Karl-Friedrich Stracke home to Germany,” said Reilly. “I am very pleased to have a leader of his experience, talent and engineering background running Opel/Vauxhall.

Strake’s current engineering role will be taken by John Calabrese, executive director Global Vehicle Engineering, who joined GM in 1981.
