Kangoo Be Bop-To Bop or Not to Bop

As we reported approximately two weeks ago, French manufacturer Renault is issuing a new version, or should we say, a more fun-loving one, of the plain and simple Kangoo. Technical details included, we are now back on the subject to further reveal the car.

Renault Kangoo be bop retains the familiar Kangoo front end with its short bonnet and droplet -shaped headlamps. Light floods into the cabin through the sweeping, raked windscreen assuring a wide angle of visibility.

It differs from other Kangoos by being even shorter, with a length of just 3.87 meters, as well as through some styling details, such as the black headlamp masks, specific bumpers and 16-inch alloy wheels. It doesn't sound bad so far, but be patient. It will.

Be bop comes in two versions, called ”Be chic” and “Be fun”. We doubt there will be a guy out there that will buy the car and then bragg about driving a “Be chic” Kangoo, but it seems the Renault believes it is a good idea. Anyway, the first version comes in Pearlescent Black, Pavot Red and Glacier White exterior paints, combined with red and black upholstery and a dark charcoal dashboard. Classy, ain't it?

“Be fun” combines Etincelle Orange and Glacier White with silver, blue and orange upholstery and blue dashboard. The white instrument backgrounds and satin-finish chrome-effect climate control console further emphasize the feeling that if you are not 18 and a girl, you don't belong there.

The rear of the car is fully modular. The capacity of the luggage compartment ranges from 174 to 1,462 dm3. From the basic figure of 174 dm3 VDA, the boot capacity increases to 214 dm3 VDA with the rear seats in their foremost position. Like the Scénic, the rear seats can be folded and tipped forward with a built-in notching system that holds them in place.

It is a courageous endeavor Renault took with this car. It is a crisis-dominated world out there, and not exactly the best moment to experiment with “wacky” ideas. Renault makes a big case out of the car's look, but men won't buy this version just because it looks too...girly,. At the same time, women have better looking alternatives to the Be Bop, like the VW Beetle... We don't deny its qualities, just that we don't see its point...
