The 46-year-old NASCAR driver from Grand Rapids, Michigan has signed an 18-race deal with Team Gill Racing for the 2010 Camping World Truck Series.
After going through a very serious accident back in June 2009 that sent him to the hospital with a broken collarbone, separated shoulder, three broken ribs, bruised lungs, a fractured wrist and third-degree burns on one elbow, the 2008 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion is determined to get back in the game.
Team Gill Racing will compete in all the 25 events of the 2010 Truck Series season and has announced that Johnny Benson will make his debut behind the wheel of No. 95 Ford F-150 in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 12.
"We really needed to start this year out right," team owner Danny Gill said in a press release. "We wanted to show up and let everyone know that Team Gill Racing is bringing a lot to the table every weekend."
"We have a lot of really good things working in our favor right now. We feel like we're going to be a force to be reckoned with all season and well into the following years."
Alongside the 46-year-old driver, the remaining 7 races of the 2010 season will be fielded by rookie Lance Fenton. The rookie is scheduled to make his debut for Team Gill Racing in the ASA Transcontinental Series event scheduled for Jan. 31 at the 1.5-mile Phakisa Freeway Circuit in South Africa. Upon arrival from South Africa, Fenton will be maintaining his racing form by running in the Daytona Speedweeks 2010 opening event, the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 for the ARCA Racing Series on Feb. 6.
