This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed should feature more high-performance battery-electric vehicles than any other iteration of this famous event. Among them will be the so-called AIM EV Sport 01, designed by Shiro Nakamura’s SN Design Platform. The Japanese concept car, which was first unveiled back in April, will make its dynamic debut at Goodwood on July 13.
If all goes as planned (the testing and evaluation phase), we might be looking at a potential limited series production run, which should be fun for both EV fans, and car enthusiasts in general.

Founded back in 1998, AIM specializes in automotive design and technology, and aren’t strangers to taking on high-performance endeavors, having previously participated in the 24hrs of Le Mans back in 2010 with their 5.5-liter V10 engines – remember Team Oreca Matmut AIM? They actually finished 4th overall and had the highest placed gasoline engine.

Meanwhile, the EV Sport 01 is meant to represent both the company’s first ever vehicle and the first application of their APM200 high performance electric motor.

The 2-seater sport coupe boasts a dual-motor rear-wheel-drive setup, where each motor is controlled by an advanced torque vectoring system. Together, they produce a combined 360 kW (490 hp) and a peak torque figure of 740 Nm (545 lb-ft). Then there’s the laminate rechargeable Lithium battery, with a capacity of 81 kWh and a four-pack configuration.

All in all, the vehicle should put down over 600 horsepower, but the output clearly isn’t official – and neither is the car (production-wise), obviously.

“The vision for the AIM EV Sport 01 was fast, and enjoyable to drive, while the mainstream trend for EVs is AWD, the character of this car called for a RWD configuration. Having created our own series of advanced electric motors, the AIM EV Sport 01 is also the perfect way to showcase our expertise in advanced powertrain development. I am really excited to be personally driving the car up the hill at Goodwood this year,” said AIM President and CEO, Yukinori Suzuki.

More on the concept, it measures 3.9 meters (12.8 ft) in length, 1.9 meters (6.23 ft) in width and 1.2 meters (3.93 ft) in height, with a 2.4 meter-long (7.87 ft) wheelbase and a curb weight of 1,425 kg (3,141 lbs).

It also comes with a multi-tubular aluminum frame, featuring a double-wishbone front and rear suspension system. The EV Sport 01’s body panels are made from a carbon fiber laminate structure, while the interior “bathtub” is 100% carbon fiber. A set of 20-inch wheels with 235/35 ZR20 (front) and 275/30 ZR30 (rear) tires complete the look.

Aside from being invested in the EV Sport 01’s fate, the AIM company is also looking to invest in EV powertrain systems for both OEM customers and its own vehicles, potentially.
