Honda has announced that it will offer a painkiller that will help Japanese performance vehicles enthusiasts overcome the damage caused by one of the carmaker’s earlier announcements.
In other words, the company said that it will introduce a limited edition of the Civic Type R Euro (hatchback model) on it’s domestic market in Autumn, after a few days ago it announced that the Civic Type R sedan (a Japanese Domestic Market-only vehicle) will be killed at the end of August.
But the “replacement model” will have a hard time raising up to the standard of the victim, as it will only come with an updated exterior design, while the sedan model offered a beefier engine. This developed 225 hp, a 24 hp increase over the figure posted by the hatch’s unit.
The new car will be produced by Honda’s UK Swindon plant, just like the predecessor of the Civic Type R sedan, while the current generation of the latter was being assembled at the Japanese Suzuka plant.
“Thanks to its combination of sophisticated design, outstanding performance and practical utility, the 2009 Civic Type R Euro has been a hit, exceeding sales of 1,850 units in Japan since its release in November of last year. The Civic Type R Euro has been especially well-received by buyers in their thirties to forties, who value a sports car as part of an upscale lifestyle,” stated the press release, motivating the company’s decision to introduce the vehicle.
