With his Roush Fenway Racing due to expire after Sunday's Homestead race, driver Jamie McMurray is expected to sign with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing for the 2010 Sprint Cup Series. According to Autosport, McMurray will be driving the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet.
McMurray will thus replace Martin Truex Jr, who will switch to Michael Waltrip Racing for next season. By signing with Ganassi, McMurray will return to the man who first gave him the chance to race in the Sprint Cup, back in 2002.
He started his career as a substitute driver for Sterling Marlin at Talladega and the following race, at Charlotte, managed to score his first win in the series.
This year, McMurray started the season with a second place at Budweiser Shootout. Since than, he managed one win and one top five finish.
The announcement of McMurray's new ride is expected to come sometimes today. Back in the beginning of the month, the driver was unsure on how his future season will play out.
"There aren't a lot of rides available right now," McMurray said in the beginning of the month. "Everybody knows what rides there are out there and, certainly, if a sponsor were to call me, that would make it a lot easier."
"For me, I just hope that we can get it signed and then announce it whenever they want to so that will make it a little bit easier to sleep at night."
