After securing his first win in two years at the Talladega Superspeedway this weekend, following what is considered one of the ugliest races of the season, current Roush Fenway Racing driver Jamie McMurray hopes to secure a spot in the 2010 Sprint Cup season.
As Roush Fenway will be downsized from five to four cars to meet NASCAR rules, McMurray will lose his spot for 2010 as is now tied, according with Autosport, with a seat for Chip Ganassi's team, as a replacement for Martin Truex Jr.
Although he denies having signed with anyone for the next season, the Talladega winner is hopeful he will secure a spot with a competitive team for 2010.
"I wouldn't say that I'm not worried because there's been stuff in our sport that has happened," McMurray told the source. "I never would've guessed that Dale Jr would have left DEI and when that was announced, I was like 'I never saw that coming'."
"But I feel confident that I'm going to be in a really good car next year, with a great sponsor, and it's all going to work out. But it's not signed yet and until it's signed, you just never know what can happen."
As was to be expected, McMurray hopes his weekend win, even if it was more of a "the right man in the right place" kind of a deal, will draw some attention onto himself from the few teams that need a driver for the next Sprint.
"There's not a lot of rides available right now," McMurray concluded. "I think that everybody knows what rides are out there. You know, certainly if a sponsor were to call me, that would make it a lot easier with the amount of teams that are shutting down."
