Jaguar Plans to Challenge BMW With Hybrid Supercar

Manufacturers who join the eco-race these days seem to be in a more aggressive head to head battle than ever before. On the other hand, this might be considered normal, given the fact that they’re entering new territory and the race to make a larger footprint is on. This is the case with Jaguar, as the manufacturer aims to challenge BMW AG. with a hybrid supercar and an entry level sedan to go head to head with the next 3-Series.

The ambitious project is part of Tata Motor’s plan to invest GBP1.5 billion ($2.5 billion) each year mainly, in development of new products. The targeted directions for developing new products are going to be Jaguar and sister brand Land Rover. The development program will stretch over 5 years and can be considered as a countermeasure for the falling sales of its Nano model.

Tata plans to turn to its luxury British brands which it has acquired from Ford Motor Co. in order to achieve its international ambitions and at the same time gain economical growth. Meanwhile, Land Rover is expecting record sales with the new Evoque and Jaguar aims to reverse declining demand by routing out its product offering.

"The company now revolves around the JLR unit and not the other way around. The next challenge for both the brands is to keep the product pipeline going and exploring new product segments,"Ashvin Chotai, Managing Director for Intelligence Automotive Asia was quoted as saying by Automotive News.
