Jaguar will bring the C-X16 Concept to the Frankfurt to Show, offering us a development that doesn't seem too far from a production vehicle and brings hybrid technology on the table.
You know us, we'll start with the tech icing of this coupe cake. At the front of the car, we find a completely new engine: a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 units based on the Jaguar AJ-V8 engine range, with the unit delivering 375 hp and a peak torque of 332 lb-ft (450 Nm). The unit received the ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox embraced by the entire 2012 Jaguar range.

However, as we've previously reported, the British engineers have been playing with a hybrid flywheel. Here is the result: the transmission integrates an electric motor and a KERS system that recovers braking energy and charges the lithium-ion battery pack. In addition to that, it can either be used to offer brief boost of power (the driver can enjoy up to 94 hp and 173 lb-ft/234 Nm of torque)

The result of all that work? The 0 to 60 mph sprint is dealt with in under 4.4 seconds, with the top speed being electronically limited at 186 mph (300 km/h).

However, since the performance is situated somewhere between what the XKR and the XKR-S offer, we would be very curious to see what the setup can do in terms of efficiency. Unfortunately, the automaker hasn't offered any info related to this. All we know is it can travel in electric-only mode at speeds below 31 mph (50 km/h) and that is emits 165 grams of CO2 per km.

The styling cues featured on the coupe body of the C-X16 preview the future of Jaguar's design language. Ian Callum is still in charge, but now we get an evolution of the brand's traditional visual elements, as well as a few over the top goodies, such as door handles that pop up when touched (Jag must have something with this kind of move - remember the pop-up air vents it uses for the interior of the XF?).

The C-X16 measures 4,445 mm in length, 2,048 mm in width and 1,297 mm in height and has a wheelbase measuring 2,622 mm.

The cabin of the C-X16 brings an explosion of novelties, such as rotary instruments that used small OLED displays, allowing the driver to select the functions that are being shown. Since we're talking about Jaguar, we also get the finest materials, like Alcantara, anodized aluminum, dark chrome, leather and, of course, carbon fiber.

The C-X16 previews a vehicle that will be slotted under the XK, which will probably be called "XE", being entered into the sports car category, rather than into the GT one.
