Truck maker Iveco, a company under the patronage of Fiat, have announced the closing of their factory in the German town of Ulm. The decision was reached after extensive talks between German trade unions and company management.
This decision has reportedly affected 380 people, who are now forced to look for work elsewhere, or settle for an early retirement. However, Iveco will not be shutting down its Ulm operation completely, as the Italian brand also runs a development center in the area which currently employs some 500 people. They have an assured job until 2017.

This is not the first bad sign coming from Iveco, as they will be shutting down no fewer than five factories across Europe, with Ulm apparently being the first of them.

The Fiat-Chrysler group will also be shutting down production of the Punto for three months, while the Dodge brand (part of Chrysler) is slowly being swept under the rug (Ram is now a stand-alone brand, and they have also pulled out of NASCAR) - neither of these things are good omens, we say.
