Italian President Giorgio Napolitano Visits Ferrari at Maranello

Italian president Giorgio Napolitano decided to pay a short visit to the Ferrari headquarters in Maranello yesterday afternoon. Italy's Head of State was welcomed by Scuderia's most important members – President Luca di Montezemolo, Vice President Piero Ferrari, CEO Amedeo Felisa and Stefano Domenicali, Head of the Scuderia – and was offered a replica of the Ferrari F60 to challenge for the title this year.

The Italian president spent most of the day visiting the Fiorano race track, while also getting a glimpse of Ferrari's technical department (including the wind tunnel and the assembly line). He also held a short speech afterwards, arguing that, while different, both his work and Ferrari's are focused on making Italy look good across the borders.

“The pride you feel I feel myself for Ferrari. I've done this visit here out of an egoistic impulse, because I wanted to see a workplace like this, advanced technology and great human resources,” said Napolitano, when greeted by the Maranello staff.

“There are also great motives of confidence and personal encouragement in my own work, which is a bit different from yours, but I think we've got the same confidence in Italy. The same love and the same will to work together to pass this difficult moment and open new doors of development for all those who still don't work in our country,” added the Italian president.

“I think that Ferrari can say that working together and uniting our strength is what we believe in every day. We really do admire you and we've always admired also your constant call for the country to unite its strength and to work together to create what we call team spirit. We've always tried to carry it ahead thanks to passionate people, who know how to work and who know how to compete on the market and on the race track,” said Luca di Montezemolo.

Before leaving, Napolitano was lapped by Di Montezemolo in a 612 Scaglietti, with Scuderia's official drivers Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen sitting in the back.
