Is the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Getting a V6 Engine?

It’s been more than 13 years since the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon twins came with anything other than a V8 engine under the hood, but word has it a V6 mill could make its way into GM’s new generation of full-size SUVs.

According to Jeff Luke, the company’s executive chief engineer for global full-size and mid-size trucks, the Tahoe/Yukon lineup could become available with a V6 engine option as customers will lean towards fuel efficient SUVs.

Speaking on the sidelines of Cadillac’s Escalade unveiling in New York City, Luke said GM is considering a V6-powered Tahoe, but declined to offer any other details. However, if such a mill would be fitted in the aforementioned SUVs in the near future, General Motors is likely to choose the 4.3-liter V6 that’s available on the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks.

The unit delivers 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque and returns up to 24 miles per gallon when connected to a rear-wheel drive configuration.
