A historic moment in the tumultuous existence of Indian Motorcycle will take place next week as America’s oldest bike manufacturer will open its first-ever dealership in India. May 7 is said to be the day thefirst Indian showroom opens its doors on Indian ground.
The first Indian Indian (sic!) showroom will be in Gurgaon, a city some 20 miles (32km) from Delhi. Indian will bring all three 2014 modes as CBU (Completely Built Units), and so far Polaris has not revealed any plans to start overseas manufacturing, the way its direct competitor Harley-Davidson does. Still, it would not be a surprise at all seeing Polaris developing smaller and cheaper Indian motorcycles which could be manufactured in India.

Local sources have found out the price tags for the new Indian machines, and they’re quite premium as expected, given India’s huge import duties for bikes over 700cc. So the base model the 2014 Indian Chief Classic will be available in the Gurgaon showroom for $44,000 (€31,750), while the Indian Chief Classic comes with a $49,000 (€35,350) price tag, and the flagship Indian Chieftain will be offered for a whopping $54,800 (€39,550).

With such prices, it will be really interesting to see how many units will Indian sell in its debut year. The motorcycle market in India is probably the world’s biggest and is even growing, with multiple Western manufacturers opening local dealerships and even building assembly facilities, so we figure rich riders will definitely want to own these all-new Thunder Stroke 111 machines.

Indian Motorcycle plans to open the second dealership in Bangalore in the coming months, with both locations also offering apparel and merchandise, and with customization options soon to be gradually introduced, as well.
