Not only the Tesla Cybertruck got a gazillion pre-orders in the first week after the official unveiling. Chinese cars can do it, too. The new IM Motors LS6 SUV coupe got 10,000 firm orders in a single week.
Not quite a gazillion, but let's call it 'the next best thing.' If you have never heard of the IM Motors LS6, that is alright. It just means that you live outside China, because this model is currently selling only on the local market. IM has recently signed a partnership with Audi, with the Germans intending to buy a premium electric platform.

The car is the result of the partnership between SAIC, Alibaba, and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech in China. In the first week on the market, the new model secured more than 10,000 orders.

The lineup starts with the variant sporting the 71-kWh battery pack. This one is powered by a single electric motor, mounted on the rear axle, capable of delivering 314 horsepower (318 PS) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. The car can drive as far as 348 miles (560 kilometers) on a single charge, according to the CLTC testing cycle.

Upper in the range, there is the variant with the 90-kWh battery, a single electric motor delivering 340 horsepower (345 PS) and identical torque, 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) as the entry-level version. Equipped like this, it sports a range of 423 kilometers (680 miles).

The Chinese carmaker brings two performance-oriented versions to the market. First, there is the one with the battery pack of 100 kWh and a single motor, mounted in the rear, capable of developing 515 horsepower (522 PS) in a rear-wheel drive setup. This one can run from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 kph) in 5.5 seconds and drive for up to 472 miles (760 kilometers) before it needs to be plugged in again.

And then there is the top-of-the-line variant. The Max Performance AWD is powered by two electric motors, one on each axle, in an all-wheel drive setup. Together, they generate 787 horsepower (798 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. Those figures make it a real sports car, capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.5 seconds. The range-topping variant is also equipped with the 100-kWh battery pack for a range of 436 miles (702 kilometers).

The LS6 SUV coupe, which is the younger (and smaller) brother of the LS7, unveiled back in 2022, starts at 229,900 yuan, the equivalent of $31,451.

According to the local media, approximately 25,000 potential buyers made a deposit showing intention to buy the car. Eventually, 10,000 actually made non-refundable orders. Almost 31% of them went for the top-of-the-line variant, which starts at 291,900 yuan ($39,933). But what must have convinced most of them to order the car is the 12,000-yuan ($1,642) discount available until November 12.
