Hyundai Tucson Goes to SEMA the Off-Road Way

The previous modified Tucson headed to this year's SEMA show was in the exact opposite corner as this new custom model, but they are both surprising as hell.
That's because the Hyundai Tucson is a very mild car, excelling at nothing and being OKish at pretty much everything. So if you thought a lowered down, 700 hp model was weird, what do you think of this black beauty?

I mean, let's face it, one of the last things that cross your mind when gazing at a Hyundai Tucson is its off-roading abilities. It's a crossover and when left alone, it doesn't try to convince you otherwise.

Not this Tucson that's on its way to this year's SEMA show to be held between November 3 and November 6, at the Las Vegas Convention Center located at 3150 Paradise Road; Las Vegas, NV 89109.

Just looking at the long list of modifications is enough to get an idea about the volume of work needed to turn the Tucson into an off-road machine. To its defense, it has to be said that the same goes for pretty much all the competitors in its class. Or any other SUV, for that matter.

The job was done by the aptly named Rockstar Performance Garage (which abbreviates to RPG) and not a single hair on the Tucson's body was left untouched. Modifications range from new exhaust or turbo piping and go all the way to increased ride height (by no less than six inches, or 152 millimeters) with the help of fully adjustable shocks and struts.

The RPG Tucson needed new wheels as well, which in turn called for modified wheel arches to make room for all the extra rubber and suspension pieces.

The exterior modifications are obvious enough and are all aimed at making the Tucson look like the kind of vehicle able to tackle any type of terrain. There's a front skid-plate and protective side skirts, as well as LED strips on the bumper as well as the roof. My opinion is the car would have looked even better if they went for a full black paint job, but Hyundai and RPG opted for a few gray and yellow accents, but they are discreet enough not to distract from the car's overall mean aspect.

As was the case with the previous Tucson, all we get to see for now is a digital drawing, even though it's a very detailed one. We'll be hearing more once the SEMA show starts, but for the more technically inclined of you, here's a full list of the modifications below.
