Hyundai Santa Fe LPG Launched

South Korean manufacturer Hyundai today rolled out a new version of the Santa Fe SUV in the domestic market. The liquefied petroleum gas-powered model comes equipped with a 2.7-liter engine that develops 162 bhp and mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Obviously, the car is specifically optimized for reduced fuel consumption and emissions, with official figures pointing to a class-leading 12.6 l/100km (18.6 mpg).

Pricing for the new LPG Santa Fe starts at $22,000 but a number of optional features are also available.

The facelifted Santa Fe, which was displayed at the Frankfurt Auto Show for the first time, offers a choice of multiple engines, either powered by gasoline or diesel.

There's is a new 2.2-liter CRDi turbo powerplant that releases 197 horsepower and 422 Nm of torque between 1,800 and 2,500 rpm. The engine is mated to 6-speed manual gearbox and pushes the car from 0 to 100km/h in 9.5 seconds, while topping at 190 km/h. Fuel consumption has been improved for model year 2010, with this particular configuration burning 6.6 liters of fuel every 100 km (35.6 mpg) and releasing 174 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

A 2.4-liter petrol unit will also be offered on the facelifted Santa Fa and outputs 174 horsepower. It is mated to a manual transmission (a 6-speed automatic gearbox is also offered as an option). This specific configuration helps the 2010 SUV accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.7 seconds while achieving a maximum speed of 190 km/h. Fuel consumption is 8.5 l/100km (27.6 mpg) while CO2 emissions go as high as 203 g/km.
