The downsizing trend is spreading further and further with the latest automotive producer to present an engine that follows this being Hyundai. The South Korean automotive producer recently introduced a new 1.2-liter T-GDi Kappa engine.
This comes with a displacement of 1,248cc and makes us of direct injection, as well as turbocharging in its aim to increase efficiency. The four-cylinder units also uses four valves per cylinder, but the automotive producer hasn’s offered the specs for the unit, so we don’t know what its hp and torque rating is. Hyundai only tells us that the engine emits less than 110 grams of CO2 per km.

The engine is expected to debut by the end of next year, making its way under the carmaker’s B- and C-segment vehicle, which means that we’ll see it powering the i20 and i30. Of course, it will also be used by sister company Kia, probably for the Picanto and cee’d.
