The Japanese automaker Toyota had a great run last year in America – mostly thanks to the iconic RAV4 compact crossover SUV and the legendary Camry, plus the rugged Tacoma and the eternal Corolla series.
More precisely, out of the 25 best-selling cars, SUVs, and trucks across the US automotive market, five nameplates belonged to the automaker's namesake brand beginning with the Highlander (169,543 units) in 19th place, followed by Corolla (232,370) in 13th place, Tacoma (234,768) in 11th place, Camry (290,649) in eighth, and wrapping with the iconic RAV4 compact crossover SUV in fourth after it sold almost 435k units last year.

However, it wasn't all roses and daffodils for the nameplate – as it 'only' managed second place overall in 2023 worldwide. The current estimates put Tesla's Model Y slightly ahead of the legendary RAV4, for the first time ever when an EV outperformed an ICE-powered vehicle on a global level. As such, maybe something needs to be done for Toyota's RAV4 to reclaim its mojo – as the fifth generation (XA50) was launched in 2018 and is slowly growing long in the tooth in the fast-paced sector of compact CUVs. No worries, though, as the rumor mill thinks this is the year when the 2025 RAV4 will carry significant updates.

Some outlets believe that Toyota won't risk alienating its faithful RAV4 enthusiasts with anything extreme, so they are counting on yet another subtle update to make it even more popular. On the other hand, other news representatives, such as Australia's WhichCar, together with the imaginative realm of digital car content creators, envision the hypothetical XA60 Toyota RAV4 with massive design changes.

They asked the virtual artist better known as Theottle to render their vision into CGI reality, and not long ago, the pixel master imagined the next iteration would go rugged like the Ford Bronco Sport or the recent 2025 Chevrolet Equinox Activ and feature a completely new exterior styling directly inspired by the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser mid-size off-road SUV (also called Prado or 250 in various markets).

Naturally, his first order of digital business was to portray this extreme possibility in Toyota RAV4 First Edition form – fully inspired by the retro-styled Land Cruiser. However, there is one more addition to the roster that wasn't available in the first draft – a model that could join the RAV4 roster alongside Adventure, TRD Off-Road, or Limited trims without feeling superfluous.

More precisely, the virtual author rendered the next generation 2025 Toyota RAV4 with GR Sport attire and the digital master Vince Burlapp (aka vburlapp on social media or burlappcar.com) has caught wind of his colleague's work and wanted to discuss it a little. He's also quite weary of the possibility of Toyota altering the design of the RAV4 so much so that it would look and feel like a baby Land Cruiser – it's not entirely feasible since the latter is a TNGA-F-based body-on-frame SUV, and the former is just a crossover. So, what do you think?
