Yes, you read the title right - a 208 km (130 mile) round trip on the back of a diesel-burning truck, in order for the hydrogen-fueled London taxis to be refueled. Is it just us or is that completely wrong and redundant? It seems that the closing of all hydrogen filling stations in the Central London area was the cause for this unfortunate event.
The five hydrogen-powered taxis currently operating in London were left stranded, and had to be taken to a Honda-operated fueling station, all the way in Swindon, and then back. We say they should have simply not operated the taxis during the Olympic games, or until a better solution for fueling them was found.
However, the situation will not persist, as Heathrow airport is getting its own fueling station, which is sufficiently outside Central London for it to remain open during the Games. They just have to open it in time!
