Husqvarna SMR511 Supermoto Arrives in the UK

The British division of Husqvarna announced today the introduction of the SMR511 in the UK, a two-wheeled supermoto that costs £7,299. The bike comes with a four valve, dual camshaft, fuel-injected, 480cc engine, and weighs in at just 118kg (260 lbs).

Styling wise, the bike’s single body panel runs from where the fuel tank would traditionally sit, all the way back to the rear mudguard. The long seat incorporates features from Husqvarna’s Enduro models but has been modified to give greater rider comfort for longer journeys.

According to Husqvarna, the Keihin electronic fuel injection is optimised for both performance and control, while the gear ratios are also perfectly suited to more general road use.

The SM511 is also equipped with a CTS (Coaxial Traction System) which translates into a better control through improved traction at the back wheel. “Husqvarna’s transmission system puts the rear suspension pivot and final drive sprocket on the same centre, so the rear suspension moves more freely giving increased stability as a result of the wheel’s improved ability to follow the contours of the road,” the manufacturer explains.

In addition, the fully adjustable Marzocchi 50mm inverted forks give 250mm of travel. The rear Sachs shock-absorber is adjustable for pre-load as well as rebound and compression damping and gives 290mm of rear wheel travel.

To ensure optimal braking, a floating 320mm wavy disc with radial mounted Brembo caliper is fitted up front and is matched to a 240mm disc with caliper at the rear.

Mass centralisation, to achieve the optimum centre of gravity, influenced the design of the chassis, which houses the modern DOHC engine. It also dictated the position of the underseat, two-part 8.5 litre fuel tank, the battery and the raised air box, with the air intake now in a sheltered position to minimise dust or water intake.
