HRT Wants to Finish with Both Cars in Malaysia

After getting one of their drivers to the finish line of a Formula One grand prix – namely Karun Chandhok, in Australia – Hispania Racing F1 Team has set some bolder plans for the upcoming Malaysian Grand Prix. According to the team's principal Colin Kolles, HRT F1 will target a two-driver race finish at Sepang, as he's confident there are some couple of seconds still to squeeze from their 2010 challengers.

After starting the season with a 10-second gap from the front-runners, HRT have improved to -6 seconds in qualifying, while less than a second behind fellow newly entrants Virgin Racing. As far as Kolles is concerned, the team has it in them to scrap some further 2 seconds off the current gap, therefore turning the car not only into an occasional race finisher, but a regular one.

We reached our goal with one of our two cars making it to the finish. Now we want to hit a new target and finish with both cars. We have no major issues. We are getting closer to the field and if it goes on like this we will be catching up very soon. I think there are still two seconds in the package. At least two seconds,” said Kolles ahead of the Malaysian race, according to Autosport.

Additionally, the Romanian-born official admitted that all the members of the team are not focusing on improving the car's reliability, especially since gearbox issues had affected Bruno Senna's weekend at Albert Park.

The objective is to improve the car in all areas. To get the reliability. There is already development on the reliability side, because the first thing now is to make the car reliable. There is already a steady change of components to sort different issues.

From there on, we will be focusing increasingly on improving the car's overall pace and performance,” added the HRT F1 team principal.
