We all love the new F30 BMW 3 Series and we all hate the fact that, sometimes, it seems to be too quiet. Looking for a solution to this problem, we stumbled across a pretty easy DIY that a forum user posted on-line not too long ago. It actually only takes 10 minutes to do and is pretty straightforward.
First of all you need a flat, long screw driver and some wire that can withhold high temperatures. So that's step 1: getting your tools ready.

Step 2: go under the car and look for the spring pointed out in photo no. 1. It is located at the top of the muffler.

Step 3: place the flat head screw driver between the spring and the exhaust and twist in order to get the spring out. The difficulty of this step will be determined only by the length of the screw driver, since that will make it easier or harder to push out the spring (photo no. 2).

Step 4: do the same thing for the other side. The spring is attached to the motor that changes the flap's direction, and you will need to release it from that side too (photo no. 3).

Step 5: after removing the spring, twist the knob to which it was attached in order to open the flap. Suggestion: use a flashlight or any king of light source to verify that the flap is open ( it should look like photo no. 4)

Step 6: tie the exhaust back on and run the wire through the groove that is now open, in order to keep the exhaust flap open (photo no. 5)

Step 7: go for a spin and try it out.

Some users said that this can also be done by unplugging the connector of the valve while the car if off. The only problem with this solution is that unplugging something will show up when you go to BMW for your regular service.
