If the e-brake on your Scion tC is not holding like it was new, it means that either its cable or the brake pads in the rear wheels’ drums got worn.
Adjusting it back is a fairly easy job and you need a jack, two jack stands, and some socket wrenches. These steps:
  • Find a flat surface to park the car on
  • With the engine off, put the car in gear if it’s a manual and make sure the e-brake is off
  • Loosen the bolts on the rear wheels but don’t take them out
  • Jack the car and secure it with the jack stands
  • Now remove the bolts and wheels
  • To adjust the e-brake you need to access the inside of the brake drum so remove the brake caliper
  • After taking out the drum cover, locate the little cog wheel at the bottom
  • Turn it so that the brake pads can barely touch the drum and then rotate it backwards half a turn
  • Do the same thing for the other wheel
  • Mount everything back and test the e-brake.
