Fire has been fascinating humans ever since the first neanderthal tried to see what happened if he stuck his hand into the burning flames. He didn't like the sensation, but we guess he loved the smell of burning flesh, and so attempted to harness its power.
We've come a long way since then, but you wouldn't think that after watching this clip from Brazil. In all fairness, making a fire has become a child's play - which, incidentally, is what's giving a lot of parents sleepless nights - but putting one out can still be troublesome. Some people dedicate their whole lives to doing just that, but it's not a skill everyone possesses.

It's true, having the right equipment helps a lot, but some knowledge is also required. These guys in the clip below lacked both, but at least they were persistent. And also pretty resourceful. Faced with a small white hatchback with its engine bay on fire, they did their best.

One of the first things we learn in life is that fire doesn't like water. So when the clip starts, the volunteering fire brigade is pouring water buckets over the flames. The first one carefully spills his load on the windshield, but apart from cleaning it a little, nothing else happens. The second one realizes it's better to target the actual flames, so he does that. A third man appears immediately and, for a second, it looks like their teamwork had paid dividends.

Sadly, it didn't. Probably thinking it was just bad luck, some other guys try it again, but the fire keeps reigniting over and over again. Could it be that the fuel pump is still running and it squirts fuel? Well, yes, but don't tell anybody. Let's just wait and see how many buckets of water they waste before they realize that.

Seeing how the fire's old nemesis isn't doing the trick, they go to Plan B. Put it out by asphyxiating it. Clever. Out of nowhere, a front loader full of dirt comes in and unloads everything over the engine. Just as they were beginning to celebrate, the flames make another comeback.

Sick of it all, the loader's driver tries something new: he simply rams the vehicle for no apparent reason. Surprisingly enough, it didn't work. Perhaps it was sitting next to his house and he didn't want to have his windows broken from the impending explosion. Unfortunately, the video ends without a conclusion, but we guess they eventually gave up and decided to let it burn. Or maybe they siphoned the gas out of the tank, which would have probably been the best idea they had so far.
